 About Me

My Name is Ann Hodnett and I am the founder of "Sew I Had A Go".

A strange name for a business I hear you say, well let me tell you how it all began.

For many years, I watched my wonderful Nan produce stunning quilts that won many prizes. I am very lucky to own 2 of these. Over the years I wanted to follow in her footsteps but due to young children and then her illness I was unable to get her to teach me.

Then many years later a friend told me she had started quilting and I said I would love to learn; she told me to “have a go” and see how I got on. So down to the sewing machine shop I went and purchased my first machine, then to the material shop for my first fat quarters, then to my friends to have a go. From that point onwards I was hooked, which resulted in me taking over the summerhouse as a sewing shed. Here I spent many an hour making creations, some good some not so. I attended online courses that I loved and here I learnt how to make some lovely patterns. These I turned into a sampler quilt for my niece’s 18th birthday (which continued the tradition my nan started with me) and a foot/lap quilt for my dad.

So when it came to thinking about a name, having a go is what started my journey and so it seemed apt that the business name reflected that and "Sew I Had A Go" was born.

Below are some pictures from my very first make to my niece’s quilt, which shows the wonderful journey I have been on.

Please browse the shop and contact me if there is anything you like but in a different colour combination and I will work with you so you get the product you want.
